A Lesson Learnt : A Story Told!

As Independant variable, I write this story in recapitulation of discourse on Mankutimmana Kagga by DVG ( Real Genius who was fortunate to have failed matriculation and quit formal education) which i heard recently.

The greatness of indian philosophy rests in the works of such great men who have answered most of questions which arise in the mind of an elevating soul.

The story goes like this:

An Ancient King wanted to build a temple, he accompanies his chief architect to a rock site and asks him to choose a good Stone for carving the God's Idol.

Little digression from the central idea : "A thought to ponder on to all my fellow friends who don't visit temples or disbelieve in idol worship/god and what not, i am lucky to have them in my flock". this is an incident that happened in the life of swami vivekananda, when one of the king who did not believe in idol worship and branded all the people who did idol worship as "Fools". Swami vivekananada met him during his travel throughout india to raise funds for his noble deeds.
After knowing that the king doesn't believe in idolatry, during a stroll through the king's palace he stops near a grand potrait and politely asks the king- "who is this ?"
King replies "This is my Father - He was a great King during his life time"
Swamiji- "Is he Alive ?"
King - "I am afraid No"
Swamiji asks a maid to get the potrait down and instructs the king to SPIT on the portrait.
dismayed king says " Oh No! how can i do that?? it's the potrait of my father".
Swamiji "Its just the Potrait!!! its not your father is he? what is wrong in spitting at a piece of artifact".

The King realizes his ignorance and apologizes to swamiji for being preposterous in his opinion.
Belief is a great asset of any individual, doesn't matter whether he is a good, bad or evil , it is the fuel which is driving each soul into the dawn of tomorrow.

Returning to the story, the chief architect looks at the rocks and say why choose one lets have a couple of them, Just in Case.
Accordingly the chief architect is provided with the three rocks from the site to his workplace.
He with his subordinates starts his work.
The First Stone he works for a day cutting it into shape and when he reaches to the legs the stone cracks up.
The Second he works for three long days and it turns out to be in good shape and the fourth day he resumes giving it final touches with almost done one fine cut on the nose and the stone gives cracking, saddened sculptor thinks to himself "Never mind" with some rectification this idol can be "dwaarapalaka" ( the statue at the entrance of the temple).
The Third one he works day and night for 7 gruelling days transforming the stone in to a marvelous statue of god (say it rama, krishna... etc).

At last the temple is complete and the statues are installed with the third stone as the GOD, the second as the dwarapalaka and the first which broke up at the earliest stage was transformed into the steps leading to entrance of the temple.

The Three stones one fine day talk among themselves (personified to have life and converse).

The First stone which is transformed in to the steps leading to the temple says to the statue standing at the entrance ( dwaarapalaka)- " See mate, we (all the three stones) came from the same place we were neighbors at that stone site. i was chosen in the first place to be the statue of the god, see the third guy's fortune he is residing graciously inside and getting salutes from the devotees, all the pleasures and worships, And you; You are watching over the entrance high and dry during the hot blazing sun and the cold nights, whereas me stamped on the head daily by thousands of the devotees.
The Second stone replies "I was almost there withering blows from the sculptors hammer, but unfortunately i am standing here at the entrance. All the devotees including the priest smear all the dirt and dust onto my face- this is my sorry state".

The Third one from inside the temple appeals to its friends. "Sorry friends i empathize with you guys i know you took a lot of blows, but sadly you gave up loosing patience. The first my friend you gave up for just 50 strokes, thus becoming steps and you my friend the second you were almost there taking thousands of hits with just a hit or two away from becoming the idol of god but you gave up at the penultimate moment, where did i stand any chance for all these pleasures if you had withstood for a few more.
I have taken more blows than you both my friends, hence i attain the divinity to stand here and accept all the offerings from the devotees.
So my friends Patience is the virtue".

This story brings to my mind the saying from swami vivekananda,

Rise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached.

For all the greats paths are full of obstructions, the moment you don't have obstructions be sure that you are on the wrong path.

Indeed inspiring words,
i wish to all the readers "let this be an inspiration and motivation to all your pursuits in life".

Wishing Happy Deepavali.
